2013 Chrysler 300 S vs Ford Taurus Mile High Mashup Review

Published on Aug 31, 2012 by romanmicagearguy

( http://www.TFLcar.com ) The 2013 Ford Taurus and the Chrysler 300 S both have V-6 engines, both seat 5 passengers and both have all-wheel-drive. They also both and recently redesigned big American family sedans. In fact to call this video Mashup Review is a stretch as both cars compete directly with each other. Perhaps the biggest difference between the two cars is that the Chrysler has 4 more horsepower at 292 versus the Ford's 288 HP. So the obvious question is which of these two cars is better. Check out this video "Mashup" to find out.

Mopar Transforms Into Global Brand

Happy birthday, Mopar.

Chrysler Group LLC's iconic aftermarket parts division turns 75 today. But it doesn't just belong to Chrysler anymore.

Since Italy's Fiat SpA took over the bankrupt automaker in 2009, Mopar has been transformed into a global brand that not only provides parts for Hemi-powered muscle cars and mud-splattered Jeeps, but also more refined Alfa Romeos and diminutive Fiats.

"When you have two companies coming together like Fiat and Chrysler, and you start having a significant sharing of platforms, components, processes and systems, that has a significant impact on the aftermarket sales business," says Pietro Gorlier, president of the Mopar division and the global head of parts, service and customer care for the Fiat-Chrysler group. "You need a single organization to manage the after-sales business in an integrated way. That is what Mopar is providing to the partnership."

CEO Sergio Marchionne decided to make Mopar the global parts brand for Fiat-Chrysler because it was already a well-known brand in its own right. And not just in the United States. Jeep enthusiasts, for example, had already established Mopar clubs around the world, from Sweden to Saudi Arabia.

Gorlier says his job is simply to build on the brand's legacy. Mopar's legacy dates back to 1937 when Chrysler trademarked the name — a contraction of "motor parts" — to market its proprietary antifreeze blend. From that humble beginning, Mopar expanded into a full-line replacement parts provider for the company's brands.

Mopar came into its own in the 1960s when it began marketing the performance parts that would help drive the American muscle car craze. The name became synonymous with burning rubber and beer bellies, but the party came to an end with the advent of fuel economy standards in the 1980s.

Mopar shifted its attention to service before losing its way in the dark days before Chrysler's 2009 bankruptcy filing. "In the nightmare of all the problems the company had, the brand was sort of neglected," Gorlier acknowledges. "Everything was driven by the short-term view."

But Marchionne made resurrecting Mopar a top priority after Fiat took over in Auburn Hills. He elevated the division to the top level of the new global organization he forged out of the two automakers' disparate parts, making it co-equal with vehicle brands like Dodge and Fiat.

Today, Mopar's emphasis has shifted to customization. At a time when consumers embellish their cellphones with sequined cases and custom ring tones, Marchionne believes allowing motorists to do the same with their cars and trucks will give his company a competitive advantage.

So Mopar sells kits that allow Jeep owners to transform their Wranglers into pickups that bear a strong resemblance to the Tonka toys that many of them played with in their youth. It offers 150 different accessories for the new Dodge Dart alone and is providing similar support to Fiat's newest models.

"This is something we are exporting to the rest of the company," Gorlier says. "The future is definitely about the globalization of our activities."

Mopar already boasts more than 6,000 employees, 20 call centers and 50 parts distribution facilities worldwide. Together, they offer more than 500,000 different parts for 10 Fiat and Chrysler brands. Only Maserati and Ferrari provide their own parts. The rest are now packaged in the same blue-and-white boxes bearing the Mopar logo and the phrase "genuine parts" in 28 different languages.

"Mopar is a unique case in the automotive industry," Gorlier says, noting that no other automaker has a global parts brand like it. It is making money, too. Gorlier will not say how much, but he will say this: "If I'm still here after three years, we must be delivering some good results."

2013 Ram 1500 HEMI Police Truck

Published on Jul 1, 2012 by romanmicagearguy

The new 2013 Ram 1500 Special Service HEMI pick-up truck is set to follow in the footsteps of the Dodge Police Pursuit Charger. In other words Ram built and designed this new cop truck for police departments all over the country that need a law enforcement pick-up to catch the bad guys. Recently we had the chance to test and preview the new Ram 1500 HEMI Cop Truck Chrysler's proving grounds in Michigan. And since Chrysler shoehorned a massive 390 HP HEMI into the black and white 4X4 we naturally had to see how fast it would go from 0-60 MPH.

2013 Ram 1500 Pickup Will Be First In U.S. To Offer Hands-free Texting

The 2013 Ram 1500 pickup will be the first American-built vehicle to offer hands-free voice responses to text messages.

"We would like people to put their phones away and drive," said Joni Christensen, Chrysler Group's head of marketing for its UConnect mobile telecommunication systems.

The new pickup uses a computer-generated voice to read received text messages aloud. Connecting to a separate "cloud-based" server, the driver can then vocally dictate a response.

The message is voiced back to the driver and, upon vocal approval, it is sent through a Bluetooth-connected cellphone as text.

"We know that although it is dangerous and illegal in many states, people are still pulling out their cellphones while driving to text message," Christensen said.

"Some, especially young people we call 'screen-agers,' actually don't talk on their phones as much as they communicate through text," he said.

"This is a generation that does not know life without the Internet, but this is technology that can make using cellphones safer."

The new texting capabilities were announced when the extensively redesigned pickup was introduced to the motoring press in Nashville, Tenn.

The truck offers several new features, including fuel-saving aerodynamics, optional air-ride suspension and an eight-speed automatic transmission that is controlled with an unusual gear selection knob on the dashboard.

The Ram 1500 pickup, whose four-door models are built in Warren, will be in dealerships by the end of September. Ram's two-door trucks are built in Mexico.

BMW in June announced a similar text-dictation system in its 7-Series luxury cars built in Germany and Mexico that will be available this fall in the United States.

BMW's vehicle text-communication system receives and uses voice dictation to respond to email, Twitter and Facebook posts.

Chrysler's system receives only Android and BlackBerry smartphone text messages. It isn't compatible with Apple iPhone.

Others, including Audi, Cadillac, Ford, Hyundai and Nissan, allow text message reception that can be read to the driver by a computer-generated voice through an audio system. A reply with these systems comes only from a list of pre-programmed choices like, "Yes," "No" and "I'm driving right now. I will get back to you later."

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has called distracted driving an "epidemic."

More than 3,000 fatal crashes, one of every 10 in 2010, were attributed to distracted driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which estimates those who text while driving are 23 times more likely to be in an accident.

"Our youngest and most inexperienced drivers are often the most at risk," LaHood said in a statement this week announcing the government has expanded its nationwide "Stop the Texts. Stop the Wrecks" advertising campaign.

Television commercials using the cast of the popular television show "Glee" have been added to the campaign.

2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition

Published on Aug 19, 2012 by SupercarHall

Audio file (Neo Western) provided by www.incompetech.com

SRT Unveils New 2013 Viper GTS Launch Edition Model in Monterey. SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition is inspired by previous-generation Viper Coupe reveals in 1996 and 2006. Historically significant exterior paint scheme features classic GTS Blue with exclusive, dual full-length Bright White stripes and 'Stryker' hood badge with exclusive blue background. Exclusive interior content includes serialized dash plaque that aligns the build-sequence number to the vehicle identification number and special 'Stryker' badge on steering wheel. Production will be limited during first run of 2013 SRT Viper GTS models at Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. SRT brand's flagship performance machine returns later this year with two new models -- SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS -- both powered by all-aluminum, mid-front, 8.4-liter V-10 engine delivering 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque.

August 16, 2012 , Monterey, Calif. - The Chrysler Group's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) brand will mark their first official appearance at the renowned automotive events in Monterey, Calif., this weekend with the unveiling of the new, limited-edition 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition model.

A sneak peak of the SRT flagship supercar will take place from 10 a.m. -- 4 p.m Friday, Aug. 17, at the Quail Lodge as part of "The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering" event. Then on Saturday, Aug. 18, and Sunday, Aug. 19, the SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition will be displayed on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

The 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition evokes memories of past Viper Coupe reveals in 1996 and 2006 with symbolic GTS Blue paint and dual Bright White stripes -- exclusive to Launch Edition models -- running the length of its all-new exterior that incorporates iconic Viper styling cues with a contemporary execution. The 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition carries on the tradition of special Viper model builds to the fifth generation of the American-built supercar with true performance enthusiasts and collectors in mind.

"Designed with Viper loyalists in mind, the 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition model brings back the classic paint schemes that have adorned all previous Viper coupe launches to help us celebrate the return of our brand's flagship performance machine to the supercar market," said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO -- Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports and Senior Vice President -- Product Design, Chrysler Group LLC. "Our American-built supercar showcases the very best we have to offer by incorporating superior craftsmanship, the finest materials, a host of new technologies and ergonomic improvements while respecting its focus on outright performance."

In addition to its historically significant paint scheme, the wheels on SRT Viper Launch Edition models are a modern deep-section design, featuring a five-spoke polished forged-aluminum design. "Stryker" badges found on the hood and steering wheel add to the exclusivity, with a blue background replacing grey found on all other 2013 SRT Vipers models.

The new Stryker logo was named by owners who attended the 2010 Viper Owners Invitational event in Salt Lake City. Stryker marks the first new emblem for Viper since 2003 and the third incarnation of a Viper logo, following "Sneaky Pete" and "Fang."

Inside of the 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition, a serialized dash plaque further improves collectability by aligning the build sequence number to the vehicle identification number. Black Laguna leather with contrast stitching is found throughout, covering the seats, door trim, instrument panel, steering wheel, grab handle, shift knob and center console. Alcantara covers the headliner and white bezels are finished in Satin Silver.

Return of the 'Snake'
The 2013 SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS models are set to return in fourth quarter of 2012 with more power and performance, superior craftsmanship, new technologies and creature comforts.

The all-aluminum, mid-front, 8.4-liter V-10 powerplant delivers 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque -- the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports car engine in the world. Standard safety features include electronic multistage stability control, traction control and new 4-channel antilock brake system (ABS)

An all-new carbon-fiber and aluminum skin is sculpted for high-speed stability and a slippery .364 drag coefficient. Chassis enhancements bring 50 percent improvement in torsional stiffness, while triple-digit weight reduction results in a Viper best power-to-weight ratio.

The 2013 SRT Viper models feature timeless exterior designs incorporating iconic Viper styling cues with a contemporary execution. All-new, innovative interior designs set new standards with premium materials, new technologies and superior craftsmanship.

2013 Grand Cherokee SRT8 Alpine (470 hp)

Published on Aug 1, 2012 by YouCarPress

The 2013 Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the most powerful, technologically advanced, high-performance Jeep® vehicle ever ---- featuring a combination of Jeep's legendary capability and utility, merged with the renowned advanced performance engineering from Chrysler Group's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team.

Delivering outstanding driving performance in all conditions, and complemented by key SRT attributes -- including functional, performance-oriented styling, world-class ride and handling, benchmark braking and race-inspired interior appointments -- the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 runs from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds, 0-100-0 mph in the mid-16 second range, can cover the quarter mile in the mid-13 second range, has a top speed of 160 mph, and brakes from 60-0 mph in 116 feet.

Powering the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 with Fuel Saver Technology that delivers 470 horsepower (351 kW) and 465 lb.-ft. (630 N•m) of torque.

An active intake manifold and high-lift camshaft with cam phasing delivers maximum low-end torque while optimizing high-end power across a wide rpm band. Specifically, 90-percent of peak torque is available between 2,800 and 6,000 rpm, allowing for inspired standing starts and improved straight-line performance.

Standard Fuel Saver Technology and an active valve exhaust system allows four-cylinder operation to engage over a wide rpm range, to deliver both fuel efficiency and an extended range of 450 miles on one tank of gas.

Standard steering wheel mounted paddle shifters join the standard Auto Stick on the floor. Both are mated to a proven automatic transmission, allowing a choice of spirited shifting on the road and the racetrack. Both methods give the driver the ability to shift while the transmission controller calibration prevents situations that might over rev the engine. Fully adaptive electronic control of all shifting makes the powertrain more responsive while minimizing harshness.

The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is built at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is $59,995 (plus $925 destination). MSRP for the Alpine and Vapor special edition packages is $2,495.
